The Pearl & Wood EP is almost here!

You’ve heard us talk about our new Pearl & Wood EP for a while now and we’re SO CLOSE TO FINISHING. Most of the legwork is done and we’re now in the final push.

THE DETAILS:

What’s an EP?
EP stands for Extended Play. It’s a recording with less songs than your typical album. Our EP has 6 songs on it. (“But you have much more original music than 6 songs!”) Yes, yes, we hear you. We went for quality over quantity when planning this recording.

The process
Last spring, we recorded our tracks at Mad Dog Ranch Studios --  a special place on the river in Old Snowmass, CO, once owned by Jimmy Buffet and then Glenn Frey of the Eagles. We recorded in analog, which means the quality is super high.

This summer, we’ve been trading emails and phone calls back-and-forth with Tim Mitchell of Brooklyn Aloha Recording, who is mixing and mastering our tracks. He’s a powerhouse based in Seattle that has worked with Robert Plant, Regina Spektor, and Band of Horses, to name a few.

Why does it take so long to produce 6 songs?
Right?? Throughout this process we’ve also been playing gigs, writing new material, learning new instruments, and collaborating with new musicians. Oh yeah, and working our other jobs and dealing with the other curveballs that life has thrown at us.

What’s next?
The tracks are so close to being done and they sound GREAT. The jacket design is ready to send to the printer. We’re just a little short on funds…

Budget
Here’s the cost break-down for the recording:

   $4710 - Recording studio costs
$1050 - Mixing and mastering the 6 songs
   $600 -    Pressing 250 CDs
$200 -    Distribution to iTunes, Spotify, CDBaby, and others
   $150 -    Licensing
$90 -       Postage and packaging for sending out CDs
$300 -    Artistic support (album art and photo/video work)
from the extremely talented Chris Hassig and Will Sardinsky

   Total: $7100

So far, we’ve fronted a lot of the money towards this project through savings from gigs we’ve played. We made $1000 from our Pigs & Preorders event this summer.  We’re in need of an additional $3600 to launch successfully into your streaming device, CD player, the internet, and finally, your ears.

Presents for You
GoFundMe doesn’t use official reward levels like Kickstarter, but we’re instating some anyway. Here’s what you get if you donate:

$25:        Pearl & Wood EP delivered to you!
$100:     A mix CD consisting of some of Pearl & Wood’s favorite tunes!
                          + Pearl & Wood EP
$500:     Natalie and Ellie will cover your favorite song and send you an at-home recording!
+ mix CD and Pearl & Wood EP
$3500:  Natalie and Ellie will fly to you and play you a private house show!
+ recorded cover song, mix CD and Pearl & Wood EP

Producing quality music is expensive, but it’s so, so worth it. We greatly appreciate everything you’ve given us so far: your support, your presence at our gigs, your dance moves, your kind praise. Anything further you feel comfortable giving means the world to us. THANK YOU!

Love,
Natalie, Ellie & Mark
