Finding Peace on Kilimanjaro

Keep close to Nature's heart... and break clear away, once in awhile, and climb a mountain.
Wash your spirit clean and heal.

A message from Yobdar Bakri & Rehema Kahurananga in Nairobi, Kenya

Greetings Dear Friends,

As you know, our former classmate and friend of many years, Akpene, lost her 9-year old son Abdi, to a brain tumor last July. It has been a devastating loss on so many levels. During the past 6 months, she has been battling depression, panic attacks, alopecia, and was even suicidal in the few months following the loss. Abdi was her only child and a joyful, creative, and beautiful boy.

As friends, we yearned to do something to help. We started thinking of ways to help her begin to engage with life again. We realized how important it is to give her the gift of hope, of working towards and striving for something once again. I (Yobdar), climbed Mount
Kilimanjaro in 2013 and it literally changed my life. It was my mirror and my telescope into a bright and love-filled future. The peace of the mountain and her deep silence helped me understand who I was...where I had come from...not necessarily where I was going, but that I was going.

Akpene has always enjoyed taking time to be out in nature, including going for hikes. We would love to gift her and her husband, Adam, the opportunity to go on this journey of lifetime during the summer of 2018. A journey we hope will renew, restore and heal our beautiful friend with a heart of gold.

Thank you for your generosity!
