PDI Sitsatsaweni Farm Appeal

Donation protected

This holiday season, Possible Dreams International (PDI) is launching a Christmas appeal so you can make a difference for the people of rural and remote Swaziland, Africa.

PDI’s mission is to honour the dignity of people in rural Swaziland living in an insidious cycle of poverty, malnutrition and HIV/AIDS. We do this by empowering community members, providing emergency relief, and implementing sustainable strategies to keep people out of poverty.

We aim to crowdfund $10,000 this Christmas to establish the Sitsatsaweni Farm - an investment into a sustainable future for Possible Dreams International.

Sitsatsaweni Farm is the brainchild of PDI’s local Swazi team – Ray, Mahkhundu, Sibu, Thembi & Precious (photo). After months of consultation, the land for the farm was given to us by the elders of the Sitsatsaweni village. Donations will go towards seeds, farming equipment & tools, irrigation, labor & ploughing costs, a storage building, fencing, transport of mealie meal (maize) to families, and vehicle maintenance.

Our team will grow maize and other crops on this land in order to help the sick, elderly, pregnant women and malnourished children. This will reduce our need to purchase maize every year, empowering a self-sustaining community and reducing reliance on donations.

Dream with us – help make the Sitsatsaweni Farm possible! Reach deep to help grow the seed of an idea into an agricultural farm to nourish a community. Donate* your loose change, a part of your next pay check, or make a donation as a gift for a loved one!

On behalf of our global Possible Dreams team and the Swazi communities we partner with, thank you for opening the door to possibility. We are grateful and humbled by your generosity. Our life saving work would not be possible without your belief in our shared humanity.

*Donations to Possible Dreams International over $2 are tax deductible. PDI is a registered charity with the Australian Charities and Not-For-Profits Commission.

More about Possible Dreams International:

Swaziland is a country with the highest prevalence of HIV/AIDS in the world. The average life expectancy is 59 years (compared with 82 in Australia). Women tend to be disproportionately affected by HIV/AIDS, with 31% of all women living with HIV and 40% of pregnant women being HIV positive.

We believe that health is more than medicine, thus our projects target the social determinants of health. Our Swazi-led paradigm ensures projects are aligned with community needs; our local staff share language, culture, and community membership with the people we seek to support.

Possible Dreams International supports families through food packages, medicines and transport to hospital, maternal and child health, housing, clean water, income generation and agricultural projects, and emotional support. Our Swazi team members also help to preserve dignity of individuals with disability or terminal illness by providing mattresses, wound care, washing assistance, sanitary items, and music. www.possibledreams.org
