Richard Foster Recovery Fund

Just over two months ago, our dad, Richard, of the Toronto area in Canada, fell down a flight of stairs on December 7, 2020, during work, while delivering life-sustaining medication to a patient's home.

He sustained multiple skull fractures in the fall, and fortunately, was found quickly by the homeowners and rushed by ambulance, in a coma, to the closest hospital.

It was immediately determined that he needed more critical care than that hospital could provide, and he was airlifted to a Trauma Center hospital in Hamilton.

He was placed in the ICU while the medical team treated his most life-threatening injuries, and began assessing the amount of bleeding and brain swelling, to determine whether or not surgery would be required.

Our family and friends waited anxiously for several weeks, but thankfully, it was determined that surgery would not be necessary.  After several more agonizing weeks in the ICU, he slowly regained a very small amount of speech and cognition, but it became apparent that his recovery was going to be very slow, and possibly not 100%.  We were informed that although he did not sustain a spinal cord injury, or any broken bones, he would have to work closely with several specialists, who would help him relearn how to walk, write, speak, and regain some of his memory loss.

He was finally transferred out of the ICU, and moved to an Acute Brain Injury Rehabilitation Center to begin his long road to recovery.

Our mother, Jacqui, has been driving back and forth daily, despite the challenging Canadian winter weather. Their home in Mississauga is about an hour away from the rehab facility, and in addition to her daily commute to visit with our Dad, she is also responsible as a caregiver for her 96-year-old mother, who is in a long term care facility.

We are grateful that he seems to be on a good path to recovery, but it is uncertain whether he will recover enough to be gainfully employed again.

As the sole income earner of their family, this accident has been devastating to their financial situation. We are asking our family, extended family, and long time friends to help in any way that you can.

Your gifts of generosity will help our mom and dad with living expenses, and medical & rehabilitative costs not covered by insurance, to help them get back on their feet for the long recovery ahead.

We know this has been a very challenging time for everyone, but no gift is too small, and we are eternally grateful for your help.

With much love and gratitude,

Lisa & Natalie Foster.
