Help the Burton family

Christmas break was not at all what me and my family thought it  would be. The day before Christmas my dad wasn’t “feeling too good”, my mom and brother did chores. It is very unlike my dad not to do chores and be out in the barn. The next day was Christmas, he still wasn’t feeling good, and stayed home from going to my grandmas house. We wrapped him up in several blankets and he was still feeling cold. The next day we took him into the ER in Harvard. After him getting x-rays and some blood tests the doctor came back saying that he has a serious case of pneumonia and needs to be transferred to Rockford memorial for further care. We spent about roughly 9 days at Rockford memorial. They sedated him and placed a tube down his throat for oxygen. The doctors ran some more tests and found out he had strep and staph pneumonia in his lungs and it had spread through to his blood stream. His heart rate went up to 140 and they had to perform an electrical cardioversion (shock the heart) to bring it  down. January 3rd he was airlifted to Madison for further care. The doctors decided to chemically paralyze him so he wouldn’t fight the ventilator. He would improve and then decline, everyday it was an improvement and then a decline. His oxygen would would go up and down, it  got down to 40 and they decided to do a tracheotomy so it would be easier for him to breathe and remove the tube down his throat then they could let him wake up. Throughout his time at Madison he was being treated with dialysis and several antibiotics. He was in icu most of his time at both hospitals. They moved him to floor 5 before the sedation wore off. He finally woke up and there were tears in his eyes, you could tell how worried and sad he was. Although he couldn’t talk, his eyes said it all. The night after he had a total of 3 seizures in one hour. And they moved him back to icu, All we seen from then on was a decline. One night he stayed up until 6am watching the hallmark channel, it gave the nurses and the family a laugh. He loved his hallmark movies. There were a lot more tests that were performed such as spinal taps, mri’s, and many others. After they got tests back from neurology they found out that his brain was damaged and that if he did recover he wouldn’t be able to walk, and it may affect his vision and speech, he most likely would’ve had to live in a facility the rest of his life. January 28th his artery burst and they had to place a “balloon” to act as his artery. There was nothing more the doctors could do and it wasn’t worth the suffering. We decided to let him be comfortable, they removed everything and moved him to floor six where they would focus on him being comfortable. It was only a matter of time. January 30th around 9:20am he passed. It  was a rough day for the family. This go fund me is to help my mom with the funeral costs and medical bills. I know money is the last thing she wants to worry about. For anyone wondering, she does work, very hard if I might add. I just want to help her as much as I can.
