What is Tackle4MCR?
Tackle4MCR is a combined effort of Manchester City captain, Vincent Kompany, and the Mayor of Greater Manchester, Andy Burnham, to address rough sleeping and homelessness on the streets of our city-region
What will Tackle4MCR do?
In its first year, Tackle4MCR has focussed on three fundraising initiatives, supporting the Greater Manchester Mayor's Charity - working together to tackle rough sleeping and homelessness across Greater Manchester:
1. A fundraising gala dinner on 4th February 2019, in collaboration with the Hilton Manchester Deansgate Hotel, which raised over £230,000
2. A participative city-wide campaign; “Football Friday” in Spring 2019 in collaboration with Manchester Evening News, raising over £10,000
3. A Gala football match - Vincent Kompany Testimonial - City Legends v Premier League All Stars - at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday, 11th September, courtesy of, and in close collaboration with Manchester City Football Club
The Greater Manchester Mayor’s Charity is the working name of The Mayor of Greater Manchester’s Charity, a registered charity in England and Wales (1180418), and will use funds raised to finance their A Bed Every Night action plan.
What drove Vincent and Andy to put their weight behind this campaign?
Vincent, born in Belgium, made in Manchester, wanted to make use of the momentum generated by his Testimonial season to help tackle this growing problem, as a humble sign of appreciation for the love and the acceptance he has received from Manchester and its citizens. Mayor of Greater Manchester, Andy Burnham, has pledged to end the need for rough sleeping in the city-region by 2020. The Mayor’s Homelessness Fund was set up on his first day in office and plays a key role in Greater Manchester’s efforts to tackle homelessness.
Vincent shared his vision with Andy, and together, they came up with an ambitious plan to turn a celebration into an instrument for social change: A plan to lay the foundations for a positive change that contributes something to the region we all live and work in.
