Help with Medical Bills and Final Expenses

This picture of Rob was taken June 22, 2019.  We were in Cincinnati celebrating our 32nd wedding anniversary.   For those new to our story, my husband Rob Wohlschlaeger was diagnosed with lung cancer in May, 2018.   He resisted chemo and radiation and chose to treat the cancer with alternative therapies.  In February this year, we received the news that the alternative treatment he was using was working on the lung tumor and shrinking it.  What we didn't expect to find out was that the cancer had spread to his liver.  They put him on Keytruda (immunotherapy)  in March and then discontinued it in May because it wasn't working - the metastasis in his liver had actually gotten worse.   He hasn't had any kind of treatment since May 10th, other than the alternative treatment that he has been doing since his diagnosis.

I told Rob that I needed to update people and let them know how things were going, but I was having a hard time finding the words.  Plain and simple, he said "Tell them I fought this with as much courage as I could, that the clinical studies they offered were more about getting good numbers than giving me a chance.  The extreme health issues did not start until big medicine got involved.  At this point, let them know that all GoFundMe proceeds will go toward comfort care, medical bills, funeral expenses and celebration of life"

I have to agree with him about big medicine... the radiation that they said he HAD to have for 15 days was the turning point, and when we started to see him decline. They never provided any evidence that it had actually helped even though we asked to see the results.    Unfortunately Captain Hindsight is not a real thing... It is what it is.

The hospice nurse came to the house yesterday and got us set up with a bed for him along with everything that I will need to take care of him.  As I've said from the very beginning, I'm a little out of my element and feel awkward about this whole 'go fund me' thing.   I also know that if I don't let people know that I need help, I don't give people a chance to help me.   I still have $8600 and change in medical bills to pay.

I have FMLA, but I do not have PTO.  Any days that I stay home with Rob will be unpaid.  I've really struggled with this, especially in the last few weeks.   I want to be with him and by his side during the time he has left, but when I see my short paycheck it sends a little panic through me.  :/

Whether you have provided prayers, well wishes or financial donations, we have and will continue to welcome all of your support as we navigate this journey.  It all means more to Rob, the boys, our family, and myself than I could ever put into words.
