This fund is created to support our dear sister, Marie Paz Hildebrand with her medical expenses and other bills that have accumulated since her diagnosis of cervical cancer in April of this year.
She started to have pain on the left side of her stomach and thought it would go away by itself. But after a week, it just got worst. She went to the ER and was immediately admitted that evening. The next day she was informed of her diagnosis: It was definitely Cancer!
She was given 1 year to live by the surgeon if she didn’t do 5 weeks of chemo and radiation, but even if she did, she would only live an extra 3-4 months longer. She chose to do the treatment. She underwent the 5 weeks of chemo/radiation while in the hospital hoping and praying that this treatment would shrink the tumor and have a happy ending. A CT scan revealed that it had shrunk 50%, but not enough to be out of the woods.
The next step was to determine if it had spread. It had.
The doctor then suggested to undergo more chemo, but this time, 18 months of it. She expected the doctor to tell her that surgery (removal of the tumor) was going to be possible. She was so hopeful but was shocked instead.
To make matter worse, 2 weeks before her diagnosis, her marriage of 20 years had come to an end. In the meantime, the mortgage, utilities, credit cards and medical bills were piling up. Unable to work, the financial stress was too much to bear. To top it off, as of July 31, she and her kids would no longer have health insurance coverage.
Now that it has been almost 7 months since the news, she has learned to accept what God has given her. She is trying to live one minute at a time, one day at a time with God by her side (along with the support of her many friends and family).
For those of you who don't know her that well, she has helped family and friends so many times without blinking an eye and has always been committed to making a difference where she could. Many of you who have met and known her have seen her in action and know exactly what we mean. Helping, contributing and giving selflessly are attributes of hers. We'd like her to experience the same in return.
She remains hopeful, truly believing that this was the path God has given her and all she needs to do is to continue the journey, no matter how difficult. She is a true inspiration to us and others. She will continue to fight and live another day until her purpose has been fulfilled. Until then, she promises to continue her journey.
Paz is battling with cancer, but to help with that battle we are asking for your generosity in donating to this cause. Any donation would truly help with these challenging hardships.
