Paying Tribute to Dana

“Mom had a heart attack and died Modisty call me.”
October 30th, 2020 started off as a typical Friday. On my schedule at 1:00p was "take mom to Drs." I never could've imagined the text I'd receive at 11:45a. My younger brother Shard broke the news to me. That morning, my mom unexpectedly passed away.
If you knew my mom, Dana, you knew she was a fighter. For as long as I can remember, she battled lupus, thyroid problems, diabetes, arthritis, multiple strokes, TIA’s, and more! But she never let her sickness get the best of her. She underwent surgery after surgery with every attempt to lead a better life. Her weekly schedule consisted of two things: doctor appointments and church.
She always served in church no matter how much physical pain she was in. She gave the best hugs even though she probably cried herself to sleep the night before. She was often physically exhausted from being so sick, but that didn't stop her from waking up early Sunday morning to get to church.
This is the worst pain I (and my 3 brothers) have ever felt. Yet I have a peace knowing my mom isn’t in pain anymore. I know she’s in heaven right now running and dancing and jumping— something she hasn’t been able to do for years. And that keeps playing on repeat in my mind, “no more pain... no more pain...”
As we plan a memorial service that truly honors her fight, her love and her legacy, me and my brothers (Jalen, Rashard and DaShaun) are so grateful for any way you'd like to be a part. We are raising funds for all funeral costs and plan to finalize arrangements in the next few days. I will be sure to update this post when they are solidified. Your generosity at this time will ease this heavy burden no child is ever ready to carry.
