It's with great sadness that I report news of the passing of Pawan Deedwaniya, Spackenkill High School Class of 2004. Pawan was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia in November 2016 and fought the disease head on with the support of his family and friends before passing on the eve of his 31st birthday. According to friends, Pawan was "a warrior until the end." Pawan leaves behind countless friends and family, including a wife, Kinnari, and 15 month old son, Sahil.
Several organizations were close to Pawan and his family during their fight with AML. The Gift of Life Donor Program (https://www.giftoflife.org/register) and Be The Match (https://join.bethematch.org/) were two of the organizations that allowed individuals to provide cheek swab samples to assess whether or not they were a match with an individual battling blood cancers and in need of a bone marrow transplant, as Pawan was in his battle against AML. The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (www.lls.org) funds research to end these terrible diseases.
This fund will serve to collect money to be distributed in Pawan's honor to these organizations as well as to fund a tribute to Pawan at Spackenkill High School on behalf of the Class of 2004. Even just registering with one of the two organizations above to potentially match yourself with someone in need of lifesaving bone marrow would be a great gesture in honor of Pawan.
