We all know many people have been laid off beginning mid-March, hourly workers, those who depend on tips, the large parts that tourism, service and hospitality play in the Adirondacks. The jobless are suddenly scrambling to pay for rent, food, utilities and critical needs. And, they have to prioritize - fast.
How will they feed their pets?
Animals give emotional support. They are there to be hugged, laughed with and cried on. It's a fact: pets help relieve stress, never more so than in stressful times. For singles who live alone, a pet is their only touch during social isolation.
What happens when the kibble runs out?
Maybe now, maybe at the end of the month, but soon people will face the impossible thought of surrendering a beloved pet to a local shelter because they can't feed it. Shelters already do an amazing job but need more funds even in good times. How can they handle this?
Help us keep companion animals in their families through these next months.
Every dollar given goes directly to buying pet food and cat litter. Volunteers following CDC guidelines will arrange safe pick up or delivery of food. Want to volunteer? We'd love to have you!
