Paules Family Support

On Tuesday August 1st, 2017, while vacationing in Wildwood, NJ, my mom, Melody Paules, expressed she was feeling cold around dinner time but didn't complain of any other discomfort. She has been fighting MS since 1990 and temperature sensitivity isn't uncommon for her, so she, my dad, and her caregiver and friend didn't think much of it. She went to bed early that night and slept until early Wednesday morning.

Her caregiver and friend was sleeping in the bed next to hers in the hotel room when she suddenly awoke, noticing my mom's breathing was irregular. She tried to wake her up, shaking her and yelling her name but was getting no response.

She was rushed to Cape Regional Medical Center by ambulance with a 107.6 degree fever and was declared comatose. Her doctors ran many tests, diagnosing her with a UTI and pneumonia, but still searched for answers as to why her body was responding so extremely.

A few days passed and she was making small steps of progress. Her blood pressure stabilized and she was taken off meds for that as well as her fever staying down. She even began to follow her family and the medical staff in the room with her eyes. This was Saturday, August 5th.

Things were continuing to look good Sunday until her fever came back and she was slipping back into her coma. The doctors as Cape Regional recognized quickly that she needed more extensive testing and a wider range of specialized doctors, so they sent her by helicopter to Cooper Medical in Camden, NJ.

She is currently being treated there by a great team of doctors, but progress is slow. As for my dad, Greg Paules, he has been staying by my mom's side as much as possible. He is taking the remaining number of PTO days from work to stay with her then will be on unpaid FMLA for the unforeseeable future.

I have decided to set this GoFundMe account up due to the number of people who have been reaching out to both him and me asking where they could send financial support to help him as he misses work while paying for a hotel room, meals, gas money to and from the hospital, parking garage expenses, etc. in addition to a mortgage and other bills.

Please don't extend support unless you feel led. Again, we have received friends and family who specifically feel led to help him through this difficult time, and we thank them immensely. We also welcome prayer and encouragement as your way of giving if you don't feel led financially or can't give in that respect.

We dont know how long he will be having to stay in Camden, but we have decided that if the amount raised exceeds his financial needs, we will use the rest of the money to support any needs that may arise for my mother.

Thank you all for your love, kindness, prayers, and support, both tangible and intangible.

With much love and gratitude,
