Paul's Medical Insurance Bill

Donation protected
Hello everyone,

We just recieved this huge bill of $7,100 from my dad's insurance company and really need your help paying some, if not all of it off.

Some back story about why we need your help: For those of you who don't know, my dad, Paul, had a terrible/freak accident on 10/14/13 while taking out the garbage early one morning. He had fallen backwards and cracked the back of his skull open, letting in a lot of blood and air pockets inside. He had bruised his brain, cracked a couple of ribs, had a mild stroke, and had cuts and bruises all over his body. Halfway through his one week coma, he was starting to not respond to any of the tests the doctors were performing on him so they had to perform emergency brain/skull surgery.

At this time, their point of contact was my younger sister and they told her to come over as soon as she could to say goodbye because it was almost certain that he wouldn't make it. To all of the doctors' surprise, it was a success and he had started to show signs that he was recovering. Him being in a coma for a few more days, we were told that when he does eventually wake up we won't know the full extent of his brain injury. How bad his memories would be, what kind of things he would like, what would he be physically capable of doing were just a few of the issues we were told to be ready for. After waking up from his coma, it became clear that we were going to face a lot of hardships.

His memories of the last 20 yrs were gone. He remembered me as Baby Samantha and couldn't remember my sister at first. That was pretty devestating for all of us. He had to be retrained on how to take care of himself, things like walking without support, using the bathroom, chewing his food, taking showers, brushing his teeth, and telling time were just a few of the hundreds of things he needed help with.

It's been over a year since his accident and it's been a long journey getting here. A lot of his memories have returned to him, although there is still plenty that he needs help with. He wants to start getting back into cooking which is fantastic because he used to cook all of the time for us. He's able to do all sorts of things now such as take care of basic hygeinic needs, make food for himself, and other simple chores/tasks. He has come so far and we couldn't be happier.

Since his accident, I had to move back home to help out with some of the bills, my sister had to quit school and get a job, and we were scraping by with my mom's paychecks and my dad's short term disability checks. It's been rough, but we've managed so far, especially since my sister has taken the responsibility of taking on two jobs and various other sides jobs to help out.

We've had a lot of various other bills we have had to pay for, but nothing this significant. Our washing machince just broke, refridgerator is starting to become faulty, and it's getting really close to the holidays. It's really starting to become overwhelming. I understand if we can't make goal, but any help is appreciated, even the smallest amount.

Thank you so much,
Samantha
