Paul is a loving husband Annette, father to Christopher, Maddison & Georgia and dear friend. He is a vibrant member of the Brisbane hairdressing community, running a small salon in Tarragindi - his pride and joy.
Paul was diagnosed with Stage 2 melanoma in Feburary 2017, which spread to lymph nodes in June. His upbeat and positive attitude saw him continuing to work in his salon after recuperating from both surgeries. He was then lined up to participate in a specialised treatment trial but was excluded due to a shadow showing on a lung scan.
While investigating the lung shadow, Paul developed back pain which initially, was treated as muscle spasms. The pain didn't go away and increased to the point that he attended the emergency department of the PA Hospital. Within the next few hours everything changed. Paul was told the melanoma had matastasised to his spine. It has also been found in his ribs, shoulder and hip bones.
Paul tackled this news with unbelievable optimism. He is on a Targeted Drug Therapy program with sporadic Targeted Radiation treatments. He is no longer able to work. In fact, walking is becoming increasingly difficult as is getting up out of bed.
He is grateful that his medical costs are currently manageable, but there are some things that would make his life much easier at home.
The wish list for Paul is to buy a decent quality wheel chair and a medical bed to help him move around and get out of bed without so much pain. These items would provide Paul with some comfort and relief, allowing him to do the little things day to day (with a lot less pain) that most of us take for granted.
