A Change of Heart for Paul

Four years ago a massive heart attack caused substantial damage to my left ventricle.  The damage from the heart attack left it too weak to work on its own.  The medical diagnosis -  End-stage heart failure.

A Left Ventricular Assist Device (LVAD) was installed as a temporary solution. Lisa, my better half and a tremendous support, and I went back to living a rather normal life.  A life as normal as it can be when one person runs on batteries.

Temporary solution,  we didn't think about those words too much when we first heard them.   We were just happy to have me back among the living.

Now, temporary is running out.   This past fall and winter I was in and out of the hospital with various complications arising from my LVAD that continue to today leaving me unable to work.

The solution is a Heart Transplant.  On March 30, I was placed on the Heart Transplant list by the University of North Carolina Hospital.

Health Insurance will pay a large portion of this operation, but there are deductibles, co-pays, transportation, home care and lost work time for Lisa  that require direct payment.  This is why we are asking for your help.
