Paul Black felt God's calling to be a missionary to Bolivia in 1972. He and his wife Laurie have raised their entire family there and continue to live there to this day. They are in their retirement years yet continue to serve in the ministry in many capacities. Paul was diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis in April. Doctors are unable to pinpoint the cause. However, years of working with fumes and exhaust from engines, as well as the unsanitary conditions in which he sometimes had to work, have taken an enormous toll on his lungs. His health has been declining in the last month to the point that he needed to be connected to an oxygen tank. He had to be rushed to the emergency room on July 6th as he had a worsening of his breathing capacity and could not even speak or move without excruciating effort. The hospital with the necessary equipment to help him was two days away by land. By the time he made it to the hospital he was experiencing a severe lung infection and lost all lung function. He is connected to a mechanical ventilator that is doing all the breathing for him. Family members are only allowed to see him for a few minutes twice a day. Please lift him and his family in prayer. Laurie gets encouraged by knowing people are praying for them even from far away. The way hospitals work in Bolivia, a family member has to be present around the clock to run and buy every single dose of medication and test needed for the patient. Your financial contributions will help cover the medical and lodging expenses Paul and Laurie's family are incurring while he is in the ICU.
