My sister Patti is a Napa native, born here in 1954 and graduated from Napa High School in 1971. She worked in the film industry in Texas and Hollywood for a number of years and returned to Napa to live in her childhood home on Sycamore Street in 2009. Bright and outgoing, Patti has always helped her neighbors and remained involved in the community. She and her dog, Westley, are a frequent and welcome sight around town.
On December 20, 2017, Patti suffered a major stroke. She is currently suffering paralysis on her entire right side. Once her condition stabilized, she was moved to an acute rehab facility. She will be there for the next 90 days, working to swallow, speak, write and begin to regain the use of her right arm and leg.
She does have some medical insurance which is covering the majority of expenses until she is released. She may well be in a wheel chair or require a walker for a substantial amount of time after release. Patti will certainly require longterm assistance and perhaps in-home professional care.
We set our goal at $75,000. This will allow us to:
1) Remodel a ground floor apartment in our house to accommodate her disability.
2) Create concrete pathways leading to her apartment and to our back yard.
3) Cover ongoing medical (speech and physical therapy) expenses, and in-home care as needed.
As Patti will be released from the Rehab facility at the end of March, 2018. We need to hire contractors to prepare her apartment to be accessible within 90 days. This is urgent as she will not be able to return home to continue her rehabilition until the construction is complete.
Fortunately, we have a local support network of friends and neighbors willing to assist our family in caring for her. Patti has contributed so much to so many, its our turn to help her. Please donate.
