Patti Stuart

Patti Stuart recently underwent a 9-hour surgery on her spine to repair two fractures. Patti has had over 25 surgeries since the age of 19 when she was diagnosed with Progressive Scoliosis.   Patti is a strong and resilient woman, who as long as we have known her has never complained about her pain or her injuries.

Patti is very active in both her church and community. For instance, she worked til the last minute before leaving for Seattle to make preparations for the Annual Blacktail Hill Climb which she spearheaded.

When Patti left for Seattle, she had no idea the surgery to repair the fractures would result in a spinal stroke and permanent paralysis.  After a week of struggling just to be able to accept, much less deal with the new reality,  Patti's therapist informed her in no uncertain terms, "you will end up in a nursing home if you won't work towards independence."  Not one to wallow in self pity anyway, she then buckled down, working often 8 hours daily on her nutrition and upper body strength, and is moving forward with the many changes she must learn and adjust to.  She is determined that she will not end up in a nursing facility and her "Lakeside Friends" are just as determined to get her home.

Some urgent needs must be addressed so that Patti will be allowed to come home and continue her rehab.   First, a bathroom remodel to accommodate her new paralytic condition- including modifying doors and vanity and replacing the shower stall must be completed before the hospital will release her.

After that her kitchen will have to undergo a complete remodel and a van will need to be purchased and modified to accommodate her needs.  That along with home and vehicle equipment is estimated to cost approximately  $200,000.00.

Patti tells us "I'm doing pretty good, getting buff."  I can only be amazed at the lady's strength! She is truly an inspiration for us all.  Patti needs our help.  As with most of us, Patti is on a fixed income and does not have the funds to make these modifications.  If you can find a few extra dollars to help, please do so.  It will be greatly appreciated.

In addition, please forward an email to all your contacts or post to Facebook so that we can reach out to others who may assist as well.  And lastly, remember Patti in your prayers.

Thank you,
