Thank you for taking the time to visit my page and read my story. This summer promises to be an exciting opportunity to further develop and enhance my singing career.
In June, I go to South Florida where I will sing the leading tenor role of Bacchus in Ariadne auf Naxos by Strauss with the Miami Music Festival. In July, I will be a participant in the MMF Wagner Institute where I will cover the roles of Siegmund in Die Walküre and the title role of Lohengrin.
Following my performances in Miami, I travel to Tuscany where I have been admitted to the Bel Canto in Tuscany vocal program in Greve in Chianti, Italy. This intensive three week program will allow me to perform opera in Italy, audition and sing for leading European agents, conductors, and stage directors and study Italian daily.
While my tuition expenses for both programs are covered by a generous scholarship (Miami) and a work-study position (Tuscany), I am still responsible for living expenses, travel and transportation costs.
Following my stay in Italy, I will continue to Berlin where I will be based for a month and a half. Berlin is the German equivalent to New York City, it is one of the major international hubs for music, and opera in particular. While in Germany, I will audition for agents, managers, opera company administrators, conductors and directors. Though I will be based in Berlin, I will also travel to other German cities to audition directly for opera companies in order to secure a fest contract*.
These opportunities have developed quite quickly, and rather recently, and therefore, I am asking for your assistance and support in fundraising for this trip that promises to be an adventure of operatic proportions with the potential to develop my network internationally and launch me to the next level of a singing career.
* A “fest” (short for festival) is a common form of employment for opera singers in the German speaking countries of Europe (Germany, Austria, and Switzerland). In the fest system, singers are engaged for a period of 1-2 years and are cast to sing many roles in multiple opera productions throughout the season. This type of contract allows singers the stability of being based at one opera house with consistent income, while developing performance experience and enhancing artistic growth. This type of contract is particularly beneficial for singers of my voice type (I am a heldentenor or heroic tenor), since many German language operas feature prominent roles for heldentenor.
