BBP is an amazing place full of amazing people. We take pride in serving our community and empowering others to help themselves. Right now Patricia is doing everything she can to help herself and it just isn’t enough. She’s very sick, and she needs our help.
Patricia began working at the Boise Bicycle Project on August 5, 2014, but it kind of seems like she’s always been here. It’s actually hard to imagine a past where she wasn’t the first smiling face you saw when you came into our doors. It’s also hard to imagine a future when you weren’t welcomed daily with an “OH MY GOODNESS!”
But recently you may have noticed that Patricia’s been gone a lot. At the end of 2017, she was diagnosed with Lyme Disease. Weak and exhausted, she was forced to miss several weeks of work. The days that she was able to come in were tough, and despite her wishes, we often had to send her home. BBP has paid time off and insurance for our staff, but her “max out of pocket” was maxed out pretty quick. And now we start another year and another “max out of pocket” quickly approaching its limit. And on top of that, the doctors have discovered additional problems, more serious than the first.
Even with insurance, there will be $14,000 of medical expenses, not to mention the paychecks she won’t be getting from her time off at her 2 other jobs. Anonymous donors have contributed $1000 to the cause. BBP has found a way to cover another $1200. That leaves $11,800 remaining in medical expenses alone.
So we're asking for you to help Patricia make it through this time. This a really tough, overwhelming, and scary time. And maybe we can do that by collecting on the goodness she’s created...
How many times has she made you smile? Once, ten times, maybe one hundred? And how much were those smiles worth, each moment she helped you forget about the stress in your day and welcomed you into the beautiful world she lives in.
$1 per smile? Maybe $10/each. I know there are days I would pay $100 to put my mind at ease.
We can help. We can make an impact together for someone who’s made an impact on us.
