Patience & Alysia Sallasʻ Road to Recovery

On Thursday, September 19, 2019, in the early hours of the morning, Patienceʻs house was broken into by her estranged boyfriend, Michael Gibbs, also the father of her children. Patience, her daughter, Alysia and Alysiaʻs boyfriend were asleep in the home. During this break in, an altercation broke out between Patience and her boyfriend. He brutally attacked and beat her, dragging her all the way out into the middle of the street where he then began to stab her repeatedly. Both Alysia and her boyfriend tried to intervene and defend Patience which led to Michael attacking and stabbing Alysia in the face.
Patience suffered from multiple stab wounds in her head, temple, face, neck, and her back. She suffers from nerve damage due to the detrimental stab wounds she received. Because of the nerve damaged sustained, doctors say Patience may not be able to walk again and will have a recovery time of at least six months to a year. Alysia suffers from a very bad stab wound in the face which left nearly 100 stitches. Alysiaʻs boyfriend also suffered from injuries. Both Patience and Alysia were rushed to Queenʻs Medical Center where they both underwent serious surgeries. The injuries were so severe that Patience and Alysia were separated and still have not been able to see each other since the incident.
Patience is a single, hardworking mother who provides the only income in her household. Patience will need physical therapy and will not be able to work indefinitely. Both Patience and Alysia will need counseling and professional help to cope with this tragic, life changing event. Along with medical expenses for herself and her daughter, Patience will need to cover other living expenses such as rent, food, electricity, and other bills. Alysia is a senior in high school with events such as prom and graduation coming up ahead. Patienceʻs eldest daughter, Irene Rivera will be taking over Patienceʻs responsibilities and duties as well as helping her sister during their time of recovery.
This is an event that has changed both Patienceʻs and Alysiaʻs lives forever. Not only will they have to live with physical scars that will forever remind them of this atrocious event, but they will also suffer from emotional and mental trauma.
