Pathways to the Past

Tax deductible
Do you want to join us in making a difference? We're raising money in aid of our project: PATHWAYS TO THE PAST: EXPLORING THE LEGACY OF ETHELBURGA and every donation will help. Thank you in advance for your contribution to this cause that means so much to us.

Our project is all about pathways: improving the paths to visit and use our parish church in Lyminge, a village in the North Downs of Kent, England, and finding ways to explore the history of this very ancient site.  We have been fundraising for over eighteen months.  We have received valuable donations already and have received grants, including a substantial sum from the National Lottery Heritage Fund.  This has enabled us to start our project and our archaeological dig is now in progress.  You can keep up to date with the project at https://geopaethas.com/lyminge-pathways-blog/

We are now focused on how to present the results of the dig effectively so that there is a lasting legacy for residents and visitors to our village.  We are working with the Centre for the Study of Christianity and Culture at the University of York to create 3D digital reconstructions of the church site throughoutits long history.  This will help us bring to life one of the first churches built in England almost 1,400 years ago by Ethelburga, a princess of Kent and Queen of Northumbria.  Our dig is providing a once in a lifetime opportunity to uncover an Anglo-Saxon stone church from the very first generation of the conversion to Christianity.  Such churches are very, very rare.  Your donations will help us make what we find more accessible and understandable, and bring the results to a wider public in a very tangible and immediate way.

Pathways to the Past is a self-funded project of the Parochial Church Council of the ecclesiastical parish of St Mary and St Ethelburga, Lyminge.  All donations made through this site will go towards the project.  Please help us make a difference this summer.
