Pat Updike Medical Fund

Donation protected

This GoFundMe is being set up to help the children of Patricia Updike out with her current medical bills.

As you all know , Pat Updike is now in a long term facility - Santa Rosa Health and Rehab in Milton Fl.  Pat suffered from sepsis and was very close to death in October which started a chain of numerous medical conditions in the months after including renal failure, a large stroke that resulted in bleeding on her brain and then vital surgery, and several small strokes,  a 5 day Hospice stay, 3 rehabilitation facilities (21-35 days each) to try to get her back to her condition before, and 4 hospital visits that included blood transfusions and heavy antibiotics for a colonized e.coli infection from her Cellulitis and UTI infections. She has also had 2 endoscopes due to an upper GI bleed.   Kelli, her daughter and legal DPOA,  has done a great job keeping up with Medicare and Tricare appeals and paperwork over the last 6 months, and setting up all of the Medicaid for long-term care, but there were some denied coverages along the way.  She has been diagnosed by Dr. Lorna Cabreros at SRH&R for dementia and currently has a patch and takes medication to help slow the disease. They just recently started Risperdone for her hallucinations.    If you have visited Pat, you have noticed she has good and bad days and suffers from hallucinations that make her agitated and scared.  Pat has been unable to walk without therapy and assistance since October, and is permanently in a wheelchair.

Our beloved mother Pat has been a huge part of IBC these last 35 years.  She has volunteered her time with the church and with non-profits. You have all witnessed her wit, her generosity of time, and her generosity of help with money. If not directly from herself, her father Lester Finch was also very giving monetarily and of his time. Did you experience a meal with her? Did they help you out with a car payment? Maybe your children's dental problems were taken care of?  At this time we are asking for any help whatsoever to make it an easy transition with her expensive medical bills. The medical expenses comes down to several ambulance calls, ICU visits and the cost of the long term facility until Medicaid was approved (it took appx 71 days due to the government shutdown and processing the application).  The greater bulk of all the care has been paid for by Medicare and Medicaid because Kelli kept up with the paperwork and guidelines of coverage, but there are expenses that were left over that had appeals denied.

I hope you can remember all the times that she gave, and do a little bit to give back. The church helps the most when it stands together to help out a single congregation member. Thank you for your time and if you want detailed statements we will be more than happy to provide.
