Pat Heller's Road to Recovery

As many of you may know, Patrick Heller suffered a massive stroke on Sunday, December 10th. Luckily they acted quickly and the paramedics administered the TPA treatment (a clot dissolving medicine) within the time-frame necessary. The blood clot that had been lodged in his left frontal lobe was so large he required surgery to remove what they could through the femoral artery, and the procedure was a great success!
Pat has regained every bit of his strength in record time (literally the day after) and we couldn’t be more thankful for that!!! He was discharged from the hospital Tuesday evening and is resting comfortably at home. He is alert, responsive and knows, from what we can tell, most of the places and people he has seen.
With that being said, it is going to be a long road of recovery. Pat, the smart-ass, witty, outspoken, super-awesome Pat, has Expressive Aphasia. This condition has caused him to lose the ability to communicate (spoken and written) while still being aware of what is going on around him. These symptoms will lessen over time and the doctors expect a substantial recovery of his speech and writing. I think we are hoping he’ll just get so frustrated with us telling him what to do, that he’ll come out of this a-ok just so we will shut up!
In the meantime the rest of the world turns and financial requirements still apply. Pat and Amanda are working towards supplemental income but that is going to be a challengineg process. Pat’s employer does not offer any sort of short-term or long-term disability. So as of December 14th, he is officially an unpaid employee, leaving Pat and Amanda as a single-income household. With the holiday season approaching, I don’t have to spell out the hardships that will be faced both short-term and long-term. Any amount of donation as well as sharing this message is greatly appreciated! This will allow them to focus more on Pat’s road to recovery and focus less on the stress of daily and recurring bills.
