Pass the Hat for Kolebi

Kolebi's Story

Last October, Kolebi was just a normal, happy, outgoing 8th grader. But one Friday at school, he began to stumble and fall for no reason. By Saturday morning, Kolebi couldn't walk and his concerned parents, Devin and Taryn Baxter, took him to the emergency room. After an MRI, the ER doctor told them to rush Kolebi by ambulance to Scottish Rite Hospital. There, doctors discovered a rare malignant tumor on Kolebi's spine and operated the following Monday morning. For over a month, Kolebi stayed at Scottish Rite with his mom, Taryn, and worked with physical therapists to learn to walk again. But suddenly, his progress began to quickly deteriorate and another MRI showed that the malignant tumor had returned. Quickly, the doctors operated again to remove the tumor and began photon radiation therapy at Emory Winship Cancer Center.

It is now February 2018, and Kolebi has completed his radiation treatments. He continues his physical therapy while he awaits chemotherapy scheduled to begin in March. A few weeks into the radiation treatments, Kolebi's hair began to fall out and his mom asked friends on FaceBook to send him hats to keep his head warm. The response was amazing ... more than one hundred hats of all types started to arrive at the Baxter home. And each hat made Kolebi smile.

Passing the Hat for Kolebi

What Kolebi really needs now is help with his medical expenses. As the bills reach nearly one million dollars for his treatment so far, his family's health insurance simply isn't enough to cover it all.

This is why we are passing the hat – because your contribution will help Kolebi in his courageous battle with cancer.

Thank you.
