Partner with Winston in Supporting At-Risk Rwandan Children
Donation protected
Hello! My name is Winston Griffith and this summer I will be traveling overseas to Africa to partner with an organization called Rwanda Children. Rwanda Children is a community that provides daily shelter, food, education, medical care, and hope to at-risk Rwandan children in the name of Jesus. You can learn more about their amazing organization by clicking here or you can see a video tour of the campus by clicking here! I will be serving alongside them with their kids ministry, youth ministry, preschool classrooms, and working alongside their medical clinic.
I will be in Rwanda for 5 weeks over the course of June and July. I am humbly asking for your prayers and support for this amazing opportunity. The cost of this trip will be around $4,500. I am beyond grateful for any amount of support you are willing and able to give, from thoughts and prayers to financial support.
Your financial support will be immensely impactful and greatly appreciated! And for your dedicated support, I will be providing weekly newsletters and trip updates about all of my endeavors this summer while partnering with Rwanda Children.
Any amount of donations given beyond my fundraising goal will be going DIRECTLY to Rwanda Children and their amazing campus and staff to continue their dedicated support of at-risk children in Rwanda.
About me
Growing up, I was the youngest child of a family that served, worked, and practically lived in the church. Throughout this upbringing, I found my passion in helping children and students through ministry. So much so that I graduated with my bachelor's in youth ministries in order to pursue this passion that God placed on my heart. I've worked in youth groups, traveled across the country on mission trips, and served students on campus at my university. But, along the way, I learned how ministry doesn't only happen within the walls of the church.
I had always had an interest in numbers and in the medical field, but never understood how I could connect them. Through guidance and research, I found my way into the field of biostatistics (just think of it as the numbers people of healthcare). I started my career working on pediatric clinical trials and clinical trials for the underserved populations of Dallas. I learned that my passion for ministering to children and students could happen both in the church and in the medical field. That was when I decided to pursue my master's degree in biostatistics at George Washington University in our nation's capital.
I have been blessed to be able to learn SO much from the smartest minds in my field. While here, I pursued a job in clinical trials once again, but unfortunately got to see the more harmful side of the medical field. I worked for doctors that cared more about revenue than patients and for a clinic that prioritized convenience over helping those in need. After seeing this, I quit.
I told myself that I would never again compromise my morals and work for anyone or any company that doesn't share the values of compassion, care, and human dignity. Because of this, I pursued a different route. I had a guest lecturer in a class who is a biostatistician working in Africa on world-leading Ebola research. She inspired me and showed me that I am more than capable of upholding my values and being a leader in the medical field, just like she is. So, I started working independently with doctors at my local hospital in DC on neurosurgical medical trials.
While doing that and pursuing a graduate degree, I decided that I wanted to still work at my passion of serving children. So, I became possibly the world's first biostatistician/preschool teacher. I've loved every second that I've spent in the classroom teaching my 4 and 5-year-olds. They've taught me patience, kindness, and how I can be more compassionate and empathetic in so many new ways.
You may ask, "So how are you going to merge your passions of ministry, medicine, and education into one?" And that answer would be: Rwanda Children. Along the way, I met my amazing girlfriend who has dedicated herself to Rwanda. This will be her 3rd summer going overseas while she finishes her master's degree of divinity, after which she will be working in Rwanda full-time. She introduced me to this amazing organization and how I can have the privilege of serving alongside them in each capacity that my passions have led me towards: ministry, medicine, and education.
Words cannot express how greatly appreciative I am of your partnership with me in funding my endeavors to spread love, care, and joy to at-risk children in Rwanda. Please continue your prayers and support for Rwanda Children and the amazing work they do!
