is an action group of women working across architecture and design, infrastructure and construction and we are together campaigning for gender equality in the way in which our places and spaces are designed and built.
Our first group campaign has sought to change the conversation around what leadership and notions of success look like - highlighting the way in which design awards
consistently under represent the immense skill, contributions and impact of women.
We have drawn attention to the fact that since 1848, the Royal Gold Medal for architecture has been awarded to just 1 woman in her own right.
The Alternative List, a crowd-sourced list of women
who have been overlooked for the RIBA Royal Gold Medal, has highlighted how many incredible women have been under acknowledged through history.
In August 2019 we worked together to ensure many brilliant women were nominated
for consideration for the Gold Medal award in 2020.
Our organisation has so far been driven by hard work, energy and commitment of an incredible team of professional women working in the field. Now, Part W
needs your support to help raise a minimum of £5,000 seedling funding to help us do more. Funds will enable us to:1.
Support our team to deliver educational events to promote the importance of gender parity in design and the built environment, working with young people to promote social mobility and access into working in the design industry, and connecting too with those working in the industry to widen awareness around the importance of gender equity in design2.
Develop a more extensive, accessible website; a digital platform to share knowledge about gender equality in the built environment 3.
Record our story so far and the stories of women who have made incredible contributions to architecture, design and place making
This early stage seedling funding
will help us take the next step to further push for gender equality in the construction and design industry.
We are seeking mobilisation funds through the autumn to help us take steps forward through 2020, so Part W can do bigger, braver and bolder things. The Part W team will be immensely grateful to all supporters, friends and colleagues who feel able to help us to secure a first round of funds to help us on our way.
