Park Van Tassel Grave Marker

Donation protected
Hi my name is Gary and I'm asking for your help in creating a memorial marker for Park Van Tassel’s unmarked grave at Evergreen Cemetery in Oakland, California. Park Van Tassel was a pioneering aerial showman of the 1880s-1910s who was the first to fly a balloon at Albuquerque, New Mexico, co-invented the American parachute, and brought ballooning and skydiving to much of the American West. He also helped to introduce women to ballooning and parachuting in the United States, Australia, India, and Bangladesh. Later he helped with the formation of balloon clubs in the bay area, and called Oakland his home. Having passed away in 1930 during the Great Depression he was buried in an unmarked grave. Let’s honor his memory with a proper headstone. If sufficient funds are raised there may also be the opportunity to his legacy in other ways including a marker for his first flight at Albuquerque. You can read more about Van Tassel’s legacy in the book Sky Rider: Park Van Tassel and the Rise of Ballooning in the West.
