The Ontario Parent Action Network formed out of the October 10 #walkinforeducation, in which parents at more than 750 schools in over 50 school boards organized rallies, marches, informational leaflets and other actions outside of their schools in defense of our public education system, and in solidarity with education workers and teachers fighting to reverse the Ford government's cuts to public education. OPAN is actively organizing parents across Ontario to build a movement of families, students, education workers and teachers united to reverse the PC government's cuts to education and build the schools all students deserve!
This is hard work and, between parenting and other responsibilities, doing this work on a provincial scale simply can't rely on volunteer hours alone! We want to support our parent organizers, by paying a fair wage for (some of) their many hours worked, to off-set childcare costs, and to ensure this work can continue and our provincial parent network can grow and be a sustained presence in Ontario for years to come! Because we know it's going to take a ton of work to force this government to reverse the cuts and improve our public education system so that it truly supports all kids to thrive!
