Who are we?
We are Paper Airplanes, a group of educators, students, recent graduates, and former Syrian students, working to connect Syrians with personal tutors through Skype.

Our mission is simple:
1) To provide digital education to conflict-affected communities.
2) To foster cross-cultural relationships between students and tutors.

In December 2016, we received official 501(c) 3 status in the United States. To learn more about us, check out our website.

What do we do?
Our program matches Syrian students located across the Middle East and Europe with personal tutors through Skype, with the goal of expanding educational opportunities and promoting cross-cultural understanding. Our programs focus on language and professional skills training, including:
- Paper Airplanes English Language Program
- Paper Airplanes Turkish Language Pilot Program
- High School Exchange Program
- Women in Tech

What are we fundraising for?

We are looking to raise $10,000, which will go towards:
1) Three part-time staff positions ($100 per week, paid to three staff members located in the United States, two of whom are former refugees)
2) At least 10 TOEFL and IELTS exams for some of our most promising students, located in the Middle East region. (Note: the funds will be used to purchase the tests directly through ETS, rather than distributed directly to students).

Growth:  We have gotten to our current point because our staff is simply dedicated to the mission of Paper Airplanes. Up to this point, none of our staff has been reimbursed for the work they have done. We are incredibly grateful, but we see paid staff as an integral part of continuing and sustaining Paper Airplanes. Two of the three part time paid staff will be former refugees.
Testing: Many of our students are unable to afford the applications or exams they need to pursue higher education. We think this is wrong: no one should be refused education or certification for financial reasons. We want to support our students in pursuing higher education and expensive certification exams.

What are we asking from you?
We love what we do, and we want to continue. However, we also understand financial restraints. So any amount you can give us - $5, $10 - can help us reach our goal! Give what you can, and we so appreciate it.

**NOTE: If we exceed our $10,000 mark, a majority of the remaining funds will go towards funding more English exams for our students.
