My dad has always been in my corner. Through thick and thin he has been my greatest support, mentor, and closest friend. I have always imagined how proud he would be to see me graduate. I've pictured the joy on his face as he walks with me down the aisle towards my husband one day, and upon meeting his future grandchildren...
On May 24th my father was diagnosed with Myelofibrosis and I now fear that he will not be able to share all of those beautiful moments with me.
Myelofibrosis is a terrifying diagnosis because it is a rare form of blood cancer that has only one FDA approved medication as treatment. Unfortunately this medication is not an option for my dad because it is known to cause ones plaelet cell count to drop fairly drastically, and his are already very dangerously low.
Thankfully though, there are clinical trials!
This is great news for us because it gives us a small glimpse of hope!
My dad has not been given all too much time, but there is a chance that clinical trials can help prolong his life!
A fantastic medical team at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas has agreed to see my dad and potentially start him on one of their trial drugs.
This is why we are asking for your help; our stay in Texas will not be cheap, and if all goes well, we will be flying back and forth quite a bit. Your donations will help us afford the numerous flights and stays in Huston that we have ahead of us.
I am not ready to lose my father, I need his guidance now more than ever. I have yet to graduate, get married, and start a family and I want more than anything to have him celebrate those milestones with me.
