Hi...my name is Pamela McKibben .....I live in Las Vegas, im a mother to two children 17 & 19. Earlier this year I unfortunately was diagnosed with breast cancer for a second time in 2 years. The first time i was diagnosed was December 29th 2015....( found the lump in October) I had a lumpectomy done January 13th, 2016........ Only for the cancer to return earlier this year in April. I tested positive for the hereditary BRCA gene.....so I had a double mastectomy with reconstruction September 12th of this year. Several weeks after my surgery I developed a seroma in my left breast after my intial drains were removed. I had to have a drain put back in...it was in for 4 weeks while going through weekly expansions. After what was supposed to be my last expansion and the drain was removed I developed an infection which caused me to be hospitalized for 7 days......only to return a week later for an emergency surgery ( I woke up with a hole in my chest) to remove the expander......I have a home nurse coming once a week for 8 weeks to monitor and clean my incision sites and drain. I haven't even had a chance to see my oncologist to see what adjuvent therapy ( radiation, tamoxifin, etc) i will need yet. I missed my appointments due to being hospitalized with the infection. I will also be needing 4 more surgeries in the coming 6-9 months 2 of which are just to fix the damage the infection caused. All of this has caused such a financial burden on my family ( medical bills , time off work, unexpected expenses, etc) that we have exhausted all resources. Personal Loans , credit cards , pay day loans, overdrafting , selling personal items, downsizing everything....both my son and daughter have even been giving up their full paychecks to help pay the bills......We are overwhelmed and are asking for help......I never thought I'd be in this situation and I am not one to ask for help ...Ive always tried to work things out on my own.....but this is too much and has made focusing on recovering and my journey ahead extremely difficult. All thats on my mind is how are we going to pay for this, how are we going to make it this week or next week pushing bills back , late fees, etc. It just get worse. I cannot work due to my physical limitations, Dr visits, and future surgeries/recovery. So it is frustrating that I cannot help. This has been a long 2 1/2 years trying to keep up....the kids are having a really hard time.....its to much for too long......when everyone is working hard and it seems like its going nowhere its especially hard to stay positive.
