Pakistan Flood Relief Fundraiser

As winter sets in, many are houseless, and require medical assistance, food and warm clothing. I’d appreciate it if you could share the link in your networks. Things are getting quite dire for many of the families we are supporting. Thank you!

Full transparency: Out of the 11056 euros collected so far, 10617 euros were sent to the efforts I'm supporting through this fundraiser. The GoFundMe platform charged 430 euros in fees, and 9 euros were charged by Western Union for making the transfers to Pakistan.

My name is Meera Ghani I've worked on climate justice for the past 20 years. Have provided support and started relief efforts for many disaster-related emergencies during that time. But there is nothing I've seen in terms of the scale of devastation that Pakistan has witnessed over the summer. Pakistan is on the frontline of climate impacts. And the floods that started in late June are still causing havoc, rendering 1/3 of Pakistan underwater, a climate disaster. I’m raising funds for local organizations and citizens volunteering in regions they belong to.

Here's some info on the individual and community local efforts your donations were sent to:

Jalila Haider is a lawyer and activist from Balochistan - one of the most impacted regions and also one of the most oppressed and militarized. She has been doing excellent humanitarian work across the region. During the floods, it’s been helping the impacted people by providing food rations and Malaria kits; these funds will help aid those efforts. Since the floods, we’ve seen an increase in diseases borne by stagnant water - primarily affecting the elderly, women and children. She will use the funds sent to buy tents for the internally displaced.

The Mamma Baby Fund set up in Karachi is also doing fantastic work with mothers and newborns by providing home birthing kits. They are also active in parts of Sindh and Balochistan - look at their Instagram for updates. They will use these funds to add warm clothes for newborns and infants to the birthing kits being distributed.

Leela Ram is a local organizer who is working with a team of volunteers to provide rations in some of the hardest to reach areas. They also provide tents, mosquito nets, and medicines and have set up a medical camp in Pangrio. They will also use part of the fund to put together a Diwali celebration which will mean a lot to the people who have lost everything in the floods.

Fakhar ul Zaman has been providing tents, food assistance, direct cash, seeds for the new crops and helping rehabilitation to help the impacted restart their lives in Sindh, Balochistan and Punjab.

Mahwari Justice is a student-led grassroots movement which provides period kits to young girls, mothers and women who don't have access to menstrual products.

ActCept is a trans led organization working on trans rights and with the kwajasira/moorat and tran people in providing support not only for flood relief but to help trans people have a space to feel safe and gain financial security. You can find out more about them on their twitter
