Paisley's DOC Band

Thank you for taking the time to come read our story. Our daughter Paisley is  now 7 months old. Around 3 months old we started noticing some facial asymmetry that was being caused by her torticollis. We started Physical Therapy immediately to correct the torticollis and prayed this would strengthen the muscles and help with her facial asymmetry and the misshaping of her head. This was not the case. We took Paisley to Cranial Technologies in Virginia for an evaluation for a DOC Band. Upon evaluation, the clinician said that she is definitely in need of a DOC Band to correct the shape of her head and to fix her facial asymmetry. The clinician also told us, that because Paisley had problems in MULTIPLE areas, that insurance would most likely DENY her claim..... This was incredibly confusing and frustrating as any parent can relate to.  We felt hopeless and have gone through every channel and pre-treatment possible before coming here in hopes that with your generous help, Paisley's story while also raising awareness that we will be able to get the treatment that she needs so desperately.

The clinician explained that the insurance company only looks at one measurement, not the whole picture, and if that ONE measurement doesn't meet their standards, the claim is to be denied. So we crossed our fingers, and waited for the phone call, hoping, and PRAYING that they would approve treatment for our baby girl. Two weeks later we received the phone call we hoped would be good news.  Sadly it was the call we had been dreading. DENIED!!!  They told us to bring her back for another evaluation in a "couple months" to see if she gets "worse" and we could take it from there. Well, we took her back and had her measurements done again, and she has gotten significantly worse. But guess what? Still not bad enough! We have filed a written appeal, had our doctor do the same, and insurance has flat out told us they will not cover her DOC Band. This life altering treatment is not only of utmost importance, but very time sensitive. After the age of 18 months Paisley's cranial plates will fuse and no longer be able to be re-shaped by the DOC Band. The younger the child is when they start treatement, the faster and better the results. Please help us give our daughter what she needs to correct her facial asymmetry and head shape. Every little bit helps. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts....
