>>>>> We've got them COVID Blues<<<<<
Thank you for visiting the Painted Lady Bed & Brew gofundme page. Located in Albuquerque, New Mexico (home to Breaking Bad, the world's largest hot-air balloon fiesta, Route 66 and the stomping ground of Bugs Bunny), we make up 100% of all "bed and brews" in the state!
Before COVID-19 struck the U.S., things were really progressing over here. We were expanding, helping to renovate a co-op space for a local non-profit , and really finding our groove as a unique lodging destination. With the hit the travel and tourism industry is currently taking, though, we've found ourselves down for the count—but not out. Please support our COVID-19 relief fund to help us recover from this disaster and get back on track! We don't need a huge sum of money—just enough to keep our heads up, pay our bills, and get back at it as soon as this crisis has passed. Read more about our story below.
>>>>> About Us<<<<<
Six years ago I bought a brothel. Well, a former brothel (and saloon). It had been vacant for several years and was pretty much the neighborhood eyesore. However, it turned out the property had quite the colorful past. Believed to have been originally built in 1881, many a knife fight and shootout are just some of the echoes of its sordid past. As one guest magnificently remarked, "if these walls could talk, they'd moan!" An astute observation for sure. When I stumbled across this hidden gem in 2014, the property had been turned into an apartment triplex. The original high ceilings were covered with an 8’ drop ceiling and the original hardwood floors, with their various markings (and a blood stain or two), were covered with shag carpeting and linoleum tile. A chain link fence was erected around the long adobe building and the process of being completely forgotten was underway. This was the condition of the property until 2014 when the property began its biggest transformation yet.
>>>>>Breakfast is overrated<<<<<
A twist on the traditional B&B concept, Painted Lady Bed & Brew is the first of its kind in New Mexico and one of only a handful of such unique establishments in the country. The Lady, a 19th-century former brothel and saloon, was completely overhauled in 2015 in the hopes of bringing people together over a beer. Painted Lady Bed & Brew officially opened on August 3, 2018—International Beer Day, a day to celebrate all things beer.
>>>>> Before COVID-19<<<<<
Everything was going great over here: after nearly two years of offering a "room with a brew" to guests from all over the world, our sales were increasing each month and we were about to expand to include a new boutique brewery and event space for weddings and other small gatherings. We also teamed up with a start-up non-profit, Pink Warrior House, to co-op this new space alongside them. We were kicking butt, and things were looking very promising!
Then it hit. You couldn't escape news of the coronavirus. The phone started ringing. Soon, all reservations for the months of March and April were eventually cancelled and refunded (including a few reservations going all the way to October 2020). That equates to 56 room nights at a lost revenue totaling $8,222.77. That's quite a bit for a small operation like ours. A lot of these guests will, we hope, re-book once everything goes back to normal; but the immediate loss has to be recovered as quickly as possible.
We're not sure what the future holds, but we know that we are here to stay. We look forward to once again welcoming guests with open arms and cold beer. We are committed to weathering the storm and continuing to provide 5-star accommodations for future guests. Your generous donation will help to alleviate some serious financial stress and anxiety and also actually help us sleep at night!
>>> What will the funds be used for?<<<<<
The funds from this campaign will be immediately used to help right the ship and get us back on track. It will help pay our monthly bills and mortgage, keep the hammers hammering at Pink Warrior House, and allow more totally-psyched brides to race down our brick paths as soon as social distancing turns to social re-connecting!
>>>>> Thank you<<<<<
Thanks for stopping by and taking a few minutes to read our story. We are a unique establishment, but we are not unique in being negatively impacted by COVID-19. Everyone is hurting, especially many local small businesses. We are fiscally responsible, and we've dutifully invested nearly every dollar earned back into the business. It's just not enough right now. We would appreciate anything that you can do to help, whether it's making a donation or just sharing this page via e-mail or social media. Anything helps. Cheers!
