Paint The Town 2019

Donation protected
Paint the Town 2019 is a community event to brighten up downtown Clarksdale through the creation of art in public places. The idea is to inspire community pride through a collaboration between local and visiting artists that will help establish the city internationally as an appealing center for the visual arts, as well as the music that it is already known for. This year the event will again host artists from Bogota, Colombia, as well as from New Orleans, New York, and around Mississippi to work with local artists. A number of walls in downtown have been donated to the event for the creation of murals and other works of art. The primary “big wall” that the project will focus on is at 2ndStreet and Yazoo, across from Regions Bank – the old JC Penny Building.

We will be raising funds for materials and artist support, please consider donating to gussy up downtown Clarksdale! Our goal is bigger this year so as to involve more talent - please helps us reach out to more artists at home and abroad!

We are so pleased to welcome the following confirmed artists:

We want to thank you in advance, as just by reading this you are lending your vote of confidence in this project. We were overwhelmed by the local AND international support last year, and we want to build on that momentum with your help!

We are reminded daily of the positive impact that last year’s event has had throughout the community. Last year’s paintings have shown up thousands of times on both social and traditional media, adding to downtown Clarksdale’s visual appeal. Scarcely a day goes by when visitors to downtown aren’t seen by the business owners in the area of last year’s paintings, taking photos of and with the murals.  Several previously nondescript walls are now colorful showcases for downtown Clarksdale as a destination that is welcoming to the visual arts.

(A note about our donors.  Some have preferred to donate by direct check or even cash rather than through the Go Fund Me page. We have gladly accepted those donations but then donated the money anonymously on their behalf through the Go Fund Me page so that you can see our progress - part of our everything transparent and on the up and up policy. Some have wanted their donation to be anonymous, some haven't, or haven't said. Anyhow, if for any reason you want to donate, but not through Go Fund Me, please contact us via direct message and we will tell you how to do so. Thanks.)

And thank you to: Kay & Jim Dickerson, as well as our anonymous donors.

Here is proof that art matters:

These two murals were also completed for Paint The Town 2018. Let's see some more walls shine up nicely!
