I’ve created this fundraiser for two reasons. Firstly, to raise awareness and to aid the charity PADS (Positive About Down Syndrome), which focuses on giving its best efforts to the families of children born with down syndrome in the UK.
The charity provides new and expectant parents of children with down syndrome with support with the many challenges they may face as parents to children born with the condition.
Support from the charity ranges from providing parents with booklets containing essential information on what to expect, how to best prepare, to providing training for a new parent to access a 6 week Makaton sign language training programme, amongst other great information and aid.
The other reason I decided to fundraise for this particular cause is because at the beginning of this year, one of my closest friends along with his partner, welcomed a beautiful daughter into the world who was born with the condition.
We go back a long way and as he’s been there to support me in anything I’ve done.. and so I’d like to continue to do so for him and his family.
All donations to this fundraiser will be split 50/50 between the charity and the family, who will use the funds firstly, to continue to support new and expectant parents of children with DS, and secondly to allow Mum & Dad to hopefully enjoy a great day or weekend away somewhere with their daughter, away from normality and create a memory that will stay with them forever.
In exchange for your kind donations, I will be running the Great Scottish Run 10K on Sunday 2nd October - Which is DS awareness month.
Thank you all for your donations, it’s very much appreciated.
