Paddy Murphy 2018

Tax deductible
The brothers of Sigma Alpha Epsilon New York Omega Chapter are proud to be hosting our annual philanthropy event known as Paddy Murphy Week! This is an event unlike any other as it is rooted in one of the most famous SAE legends. In short, Paddy Murphy, amidst the days of prohibition, made a living by serving as the right hand man to one of the most infamous gangsters of all time, Al Capone. One day Paddy Murphy, a long time brother of Sigma Alpha Epsilon was faced with a task directly given to him by Capone. The task was to kill the man who had been chasing Capone for years. When Paddy came in viewing distance of the ill fated man, he noticed a subtle badge on his jacket. He came to realize the small pin was an SAE badge. The very same Paddy had earned years prior. In this moment of self reflection, Paddy remembered his virtues and refused to kill his brother. Not  even for Al Capone. When Capone ordered him to choose between killing this man or losing his own life, Paddy replied, "then kill me."  His final words as he was held in the arms of the man he had spared just moments earlier were "Phi Alpha" the secret motto between brothers of Sigma Alpha Epsilon. Paddy Murphy is a martyr of sorts and is representative of the life long bond of brotherhood within the SAE fraternity. He is a perfect example of the True Gentleman, and how it can be exemplified through our everyday actions and decisions. To honor this legend, every year a philanthropy week is held. This year, the brothers in Binghamton, New York will be hosting several days of service to benefit the Boys and Girls Club here in Binghamton. All proceeds will go directly to the Binghamton location specifically. In addition to this fundraiser, we will be participating in a day of service in cooperation with the Binghamton Police Department in which we will engage in a city wide clean up. The Police Department is very thankful for this and will even be bringing a local news crew to cover the event. We will also have an age old tradition of a coffin carry around campus to raise awareness about Paddy  Murphy and the standards of excellence and selflessness that he stood for. Come out and support this week in any way that you can, any little bit helps!
