On Sunday, September 8th, life tragically changed for the Schilleriff family. Walt and Suzy’s son Nathan, went missing and was found at the bottom of a swimming pool nearby. Thankfully, he was resuscitated by his Mom & Dad and paramedics who were there within 3 minutes. He was then life flighted to Seattle Children's Hospital. Since Sunday, Nathan has been kept under sedation so his body can heal. He has suffered brain damage (they estimated 10 minutes without oxygen) but the extent is unknown. He will continue to be weaned off sedation and is having constant myoclonic movements (which looks like uncontrolled jerking/shaking). The team is working to decrease these movements with medication. His lungs are still recovering, so he continues to rely primarily on the ventilator. It's a slow process and a waiting game as he is still healing.
Outside of medical bills (which are actually not the main concern right now), the expenses that come with trying to find a stable place to lay their head at night, eat, commute, and be near Nathan, are growing by the day. Suzy’s brother was nice enough to put them in a hotel for the first week and now they are on the waiting list at the Ronald McDonald House, but is likely at least 2 weeks out.
Walt and Suzy’s other regular bills, including Sammy’s tuition, remain, and they will no doubt, have less income to cover those. These are near term needs and this family is all about sacrifice. For those of you that know the Schilleriff’s, you know what I mean. They are a family of faith, and have no expectations, but just one request - and that is for prayers.
If you cannot donate, please pray for Nathan’s ability to heal and for the entire family and community that loves and cares for them. Nathan has persevered his entire life with physical and developmental challenges. He is strong.
