Hi my name is Belinda Munoz.
On February 13th I left work due to chest pain and shortness of breath only to find myself admitted to the hospital.After several scans and a stress test I was advised by the doctor to get a biopsy on my thyroids.
I did.....well the one day I forgot my phone at home I had received eight phone calls from my doctor. I called him back and he told me that he hated to tell me over the phone but he knew that I would like to know....The biopsy came out positive for cancer.I was devastated! I tried to hide my feeling of helplessness and fear from my 10 year old daughterbut eventually had to tell her. I have insurance but I still have to pay a lot out of pocket.I’m a single mom that actually lives paycheck to paycheck.I have been taking out loans just to keep up with all my medical expenses.This is a horrible hardship for someone to face when they are already struggling to make ends meet.I am trying to just raise enough money to pay my portion of the actual surgery.I probably will be out of work without pay for about 3 weeks or so. I have applied to a leave bank at work but have heard nothing.I only have 1 week of paid vacation.The doctors are expecting me to be in recovery for about a month.I am also diabetic so we will have to see how well I heal. The incision will be from my upper neck across my throat. Both of my thyroids will be removed as well as some glands on the left side of my throat as it has spread.I am asking for prayers and any kind of donation even if it’s spare change.I want to concentrate on getting better and being able to continue to provide for my daughter. All this has added extra stress to my life. However I need to stay strong because I am the world to my child. I am her everything.My surgery is set for April 12th. Drs. Bridget Brady and John Sabra will be performing my surgery here in Austin. Any contribution is greatly appreciated. God bless!
