Wing Chan-Zachek is a very special woman. She is the wife of Brian Zachek and the Mother of Zoey Zachek. Wing came to Minnesota from Hong Kong in January of 1988 to sing in the Concordia College choir. This is one of the most cherished memories of her life. Brian and Wing met as Music Therapist in Minneapolis, Minnesota and married in 1997. Their beloved daughter, Zoey, was born in 2001.
In June of 2002, the Zachek family moved into their first home and received heartbreaking news that Wing was diagnosed with stage 4 brain cancer. She was given 6 months to live. About 3 weeks later, Wing had a severe allergic reaction to a medication. She had a fever of 107 degrees and was near death but somehow survived.
It has now been 16 years after Wing was diagnosed with brain cancer. Her survival is something most would consider a miracle.
During the years, Wing and her family have endured many health complications. The past year has been especially challenging. Wing has been hospitalized on four separate occasions and is currently residing at Friendship Village of Bloomington on the Transitional Care Unit. She is making slow, steady progress in her recovery and hopes to return home to her family.
The emotional and financial stress on the Zachek family has been immense. The challenges will continue even when Wing joins her family at home. The Zachek family is grateful to all of their friends, family, and coworkers. Please help this family in the time of need and let us continue to show them kindness, love and support.
