<div>This is my baby Chico, he was diagnosed with chronic heart valvular disease; stage c and will be at risk for congestive heart failure.

<div><span>The x-rays shows a severe enlargement of the heart. The results of the echocardiogram appeared that </span><span>his left atrium has ruptured and there's a small amount of fluid in his lungs.</span><br />

<div><span>Chico is currently on heart medication pimobendan and lasix twice a day. Lasix</span><span> helps remove the fluid buildup and pimobendan helps strengthen heart contractions and relax blood vessels to improve blood flow. </span>

<div><span>Chronic valvular disease; stage c is associated with a median survival time of approximately 9 to 12 months with medical management alone.</span><br />

<div><span>Dogs with left atrial tear can do well on medical management; however there is always a risk for a larger rupture which could cause tamponade or sudden death.

<div><span>I lacked on proper dental care for Chico, he had severe plaque and tartar buildup and eventually had to get all his teeth extracted.</span>

<div><span>He's my first fur baby, I never knew poor oral health can lead to infections that spread to organs like the heart. I blame myself for it, l felt so guilty and angry at myself when the doctor told me his heart worsened .. only if knew sooner how important dog dental care is maybe he wouldn't have this serious heart condition .. but I shouldn't feel so negative about it .. I'm happy and thankful he's still with me today and the medications are helping him. </span>

<div><span>Procedures including open heart valve repair can significantly reverse the course of the disease resulting in fewer medications and prolonged survival but I was quoted an outrageous price. </span>

<div><span>Everyday I pray and hope his heart improves and potentially has a longer quality of life. I love him so much I don't know what I'll do without him. </span><br />
