Hi, my name is Amy. On the 16th of May I will be attempting a one-day Everest Challenge in order to raise funds for the World Health Organisation’s (WHO) dedicated relief fund to support their fight against the onslaught that is COVID-19.  WHO is working with countries less able to respond to this pandemic in the way the developed Western World has through providing PPE, strengthening laboratory capacity, delivering testing kits to countries without the capability to test for COVI-19, and provided 194 countries support in order to adopt public health and response measures.

I heard about Elisha Nochomovitz running a marathon on his balcony. I realised that you can travel a fair distance even if you are stuck inside and I jokingly suggested to my Dad that I walk Everest up our stairs. We laughed and I did some maths. After that things got out of hand and now, here I am, attempting to the Everest Challenge in a single day in a global fundraising effort.

Mount Everest has an elevation of 29,080ft. The Everest Challenge, or Everesting, is to walk/run/cycle/row the equivalent of that distance - for me, that equates to 58,070 steps. It takes 15 steps from my front door up, up the stairs to the landing of my flat. For me to walk 58,070 steps I will have to go up and down that flight of stairs 3872 times.

The thing about walking to Everest is that I will also be ticking off all of the other world’s highest points, hence the name: Round the World in 15 Steps. I will be live streaming the Challenge and we will Ring The Bell each time we reach another of the world’s summits.

I will be fundraising through GoFundMe with a goal of raising at least £58,070 - £1 for every step going to the World Health Organisation who are supporting countries around the world in this crisis. When you donate to this challenge, make sure you leave a comment with where you're from - I'll be pinning the location of our donors on the Mountain Map on my website.

Because I am coming into this challenge super green and very unfit, I'll be training over the next six weeks. Keep in touch on my Socials and with either of the hashtags #RTW15 and #WalkWithAmy.
