Live Blog from Asilomar

Donation protected
Hi, I'm Kate Willette, author of the book pictured here . My husband broke his neck in a skiing accident in 2001, and I've been writing about spinal cord injury (and the research that's going to fix it) ever since.

Most of you will know me from the live blogs  I've produced at Working 2 Walk conferences -- eight of them so far, and counting. What you might not know is that I've always done that work for free, including paying my own air fare.

What that really means is that I've let my husband -- the one with a C6 incomplete injury who works full time -- cover those costs. The kind folks at Unite 2 Fight Paralysis helped out too,  by covering my hotel rooms, which is amazing given the small operating budget they live within.

This December there's a major conference  for spinal cord injury scientists at Asilomar in California, and I'd like to go there and write a live blog for our community. Instead of the eight or ten researchers who come to Working 2 Walk, there will be hundreds.

The goal of a live blog is to expand our community's knowledge about what scientists are up to and what they're up against. I can't describe what I can't see, so I need to be there.

I'm asking for money to pay my travel expenses (registration, air fare, ground transportation, lodging, pet-sitting while I'm away) plus a little for my time, since I won't be able to take paying jobs while I'm doing this.

That's it! If I can raise the dough by November 10th, I'll make arrangements and we'll have ourselves a live blog.

Thanks so much for chipping in if you can.
