Lawsuit to End Mask Mandates and Over-Quarantines

End Mask Mandates for California Students and Stop Close Contact Quarantines

We need your help

During the 2020/2021 school year, California Department of Public Health implemented a series of arbitrary school guidelines, including quarantine protocols, masks, and asymptomatic testing. The risk of our California public school students being subjected to these same barbaric guidelines is likely to remain for the 2021/2022 school year.

Quarantines:
These healthy kids who have been quarantined are not given an option to re-enter school, such as a negative Covid test or antibody test, and in many cases are kept out of school longer than the student who tested positive.

These quarantine protocols are outdated, arbitrary and not based on any scientific study that demonstrate quarantines reduce school OR community spread. CDPH is preventing local school districts from “offering in-person instruction to the greatest extent possible,” Education Code § 43504.

Masks:

“Children should return to their normal lives this summer and in the upcoming school year, without masks and regardless of their vaccination status,” says Tracy Beth Høeg, a physician, an epidemiologist and an associate researcher at the University of California at Davis, Lucy McBride, an internist in D.C., Allison Krug, an epidemiologist in Virginia Beach and Monica Gandhi, an infectious-disease physician and professor of medicine at the University of California at San Francisco.

Overall, the risk to children is too low to justify the remaining restrictions they face. Somewhere between 0.05 and 1 percent of covid-19 infections in children result in hospitalizations. Children have a greater risk from influenza than they do from Covid.

We’ve partnered with the grassroots group Let Them Breathe as well as the Parent Association. Members from both these groups were instrumental in suing CDPH in February to get reopening guidelines changed. We’re also using the same law firm that these groups used. We’re confident in their ability to present a compelling and legally justifiable case.

We’re at a critical time to end these quarantines now. CDPH is expected to issue fall guidance and there is wide speculation that these quarantines protocols will stretch into the fall. We need to raise $10,000 by June 1, 2021.
