Owon Kesha Johnson’s Midwifery Journey

Donation protected
Hi there!

My name is LaKesha Owon Johnson, and I am a proud Tulsa native and descendant of the resilient Black Wall Street community. I'm thrilled to share that I've recently graduated from A Wombman’s Way Warrior Midwifery Training and am now in the final stages of completing my apprenticeship in Tulsa. I am on the cusp of holding the distinguished honor of being the first Black and Indigenous midwife serving Tulsa, Oklahoma, since the late, high-profile midwife Ms. Canzaty Smith, a victim of the Tulsa Race Massacre, a dream that's been years in the making, driven by passion, dedication, and a deep commitment to my community.

But the journey doesn't end here. As I move closer to completing my licensing, the next crucial step is to equip my practice with the tools and resources necessary to provide the highest quality care to the families I serve. This includes acquiring essential birthing tools, fetal monitoring devices, resuscitation equipment, and educational materials. Additionally, creating a welcoming, safe, and nurturing environment through comfortable office furnishings and other resources is paramount to the holistic care experience I aim to provide.

This is where I need your support. Your contributions will directly fund these essential items, helping to establish a midwifery practice that stands as a beacon of hope, care, and excellence in Tulsa. You will not only be investing in the growth of a passionate healthcare professional but also contributing to a future where every family has access to compassionate, personalized maternity care.

Here's how your donations can make a difference:

$50 can provide educational materials for new mothers.
$100 can contribute to office furnishings for a comfortable and welcoming environment.
$250 can help purchase a fetal monitoring device.
$500 can support the acquisition of a full set of birthing tools.
$1000 can significantly contribute towards comprehensive resuscitation equipment.
Every dollar counts, and no contribution is too small. By supporting my practice, you're empowering not just one midwife but the countless families who will benefit from accessible, quality, and compassionate care.

I invite you to be part of this exciting chapter as we work together to combat maternal mortality rates and provide a safe space for birthing mothers and families of color. Join me in making Tulsa a model city for equitable and exemplary maternity care.

Please consider donating to my GoFundMe or through Cash App $OwonJohnson. Stay updated with my journey and the impact of your support by following me on FB: OwonKJohnson, Insta: @tulsamidwifeowon, or visit our website: greenwoodmidwifery.com.

Together, we can make a difference. Together, we can thrive.

Thank you for your support, belief, and contribution to a healthier, empowered Tulsa.

With gratitude,
Owon
