Owen's Funeral

Stevie and David have just lived every parent's worst nightmare.  Today, they lost their little boy to a long, hard, courageous battle of cancer. Owen was diagnosed with "Rhabdomyosarcoma" where cancer cells form in muscle tissue. Just before Christmas, the doctors told Stevie and David that there was nothing more they could do for their little boy. They knew they didn't have much more time with their son. This week Owen suffered three seizures which made him unresponsive. Today, Stevie and David said good-bye to their baby boy. 

Stevie lost her mother as a young girl to cancer herself. As most of us can contest, we need our mothers. Especially during teenage years and becoming mothers ourselves.  I can't imagine going through what Stevie has gone through without my mother by my side. Stevie has persevered through life without her mother and became an extraordinary mother herself. I don't understand why a young beautiful woman like Stevie has been given this painful, heart wrenching journey to endure.  She did what most of us would do and quit her job to care for her sick boy.

That being said, Stevie lives within a very small budget. 

I know Christmas is over, but please consider the spirit of giving in the New Year. As Stevie and David plan the funeral for Owen in the next couple of days, I want her to have any bit of financial ease. Whether she spends this money on a beautiful casket, take out food because she doesn't want to cook, next months rent to help her get by.  I'm not sure.  As we can't take her pain away, we can ease it by giving a little financially.
