This Go Fund Me campaign is to help raise money to create a scholarship in memory of my twin brother Owen, who tragically fell to his death on July 5th, 2014 while mountaineering near Squamish, B.C.

The scholarship will fund outdoor excursions with Outward Bound Canada for at-risk youths and high school students who can not afford to enroll in these programs.

Growing up Owen and I were fortunate to have an outdoor program in our high school. The decision to enroll impacted our lives significantly. We spent a full semester learning about sustainability and environmental science in & outside the classroom.
After high school, Owen and I continued to seek out outdoor recreation such as hiking, canoeing, backcountry snowboarding, mountaineering and rock climbing.

Because this outdoor program impacted our lives so positively, I can’t think of a better way to honour Owen’s life than by providing youth with some of the same experiences that helped shape and nurture the passion Owen had for life.

I hope that successful candidates will experience the following:

- Greater connection to the outdoors
- Gain leadership skills
- Grow confidence
- Overcome physical and mental adversity
- Improved communication with peers

In order to help raise money for the scholarship, I have decided to run an ultramarathon - The Fat Dog 120

I chose to run the Fat Dog because Owen and I grew up competing in cross country, so running is something that connects us. The dates of the race (August 11 - 13) coincide with our 30th birthday (12th). The race runs through Manning Provincial Park, BC and covers 120 miles, climbing 8000m. Manning Park was the last place Owen and I hiked together, which makes this race particularly special for me.

Please help support this ridiculous run and in creating this scholarship in memory of Owen, so that his passion for life will continue to inspire us to get outdoors and seek our full potential.
