Aeriell and Ben Jastorff, our dear friends are fighting a battle most parents of new babies never have to fight. Being away from their 4 year old son and being away from work to care for baby Owen will take a toll on them emotionally and physically. Please help us to take away some financial worry so they can focus on their baby!
Owen Tucker was born on September 26, 2017 with a long battle ahead of him. He was born with Congenital Heart Disease that consisted of multiple holes in his heart and arteries that wouldn't be able to supply his body with the blood it needs as well as an umbilical omphalocele. At just one day old he had his first surgery in SD to fix the umbilical omphalocele. 4 days after that, Owen and his mom, Aeriell, were flown to Ann Arbor, Michigan for open heart surgery. Dad, Benjamin, was able to make the 12 hour drive to join his family. While waiting for surgery, some genetic testing came back diagnosing Owen with DiGeorge Syndrome. At 8 days old, Owen had his first open heart surgery to make the multiple repairs that would be needed to fix his heart. Following surgery, Owen experienced several sub-clinical seizures and will remain on medication to manage them until further evaluation can be done. At 15 days old, Owen underwent another open heart surgery to fix some vessels coming off the top of his aortic arch. He will spend multiple weeks in Michigan working on his road to recovery. In about 2 years Owen will come back to Michigan once again for an additional surgery and will need several more throughout his lifetime until he is fully grown. During that time, Owen will experience endless doctors visits and multiple kinds of therapies to address his heart disease as well as the DiGeorge Syndrome. This little boy has been through far more than many of us will go through in a lifetime but the meaning of his name describes him well; he is our little warrior.
