4 month old Owen needs a liver transplant.
Hello my name is Paige, I am Owen's mother
Myself and Bruce LeBlanc are running this fundraiser for our 4 month old son who desperately needs a liver transplant.
October 26th Owen died due to progression of liver failure
We waited for 8 weeks in hospital
We had a donor lined up for a month
The doctors kept pushing and waiting
Our boy lost his life and we are broken
Owen is in full liver failure currently in the PICU at sick kids hospital in Toronto.
He went into cardiac arrest Wednesday morning October 20th his heart stopped for 3 minutes and he had low oxygen for 15
They are monitoring
His brain for bleeds and seizures
His lungs are not working and have high C02
His heart is being closely monitored because it stooped
His kidneys are not working he can't get rid of excess fluid
And his liver is in complete failure
We need transplant as soon as possible but he needs to be stable to handle transplant
He has been through so much, please pray for our family we will not be able to go home any time soon.
We are in this for the long haul for Owen
And will do whatever it takes to get him better.

{ thank you all so much for love and support all the shares and continued care )
Owen was born April 30th 2021 with a condition called biliary atresia It's a narrowing, blockage, non existent bile ducts.
Biliary atresia (BA) is a fatal condition resulting in the lack of effective biliary drainage leading invariably to liver failure and cirrhosis within a year, and it is often lethal within a few months in the absence of corrective surgery or liver transplantation.
Despite telling the nurse every single visit that he was jaundiced, His condition was missed until 9 weeks of age.
Once we were finally heard and they did bloodwork we were immediately referred to a pediatrician who then immediately referred us to the IWK in halifax
Before confirming diagnosis they did a biopsy and confirmed his liver was very scarred ( fibrotic )
He then had a colangiagram procedure which was unsuccessful due to the small incision of the biopsy
after a few days we were prepping him for another colangigram with a larger incision to confirm 1 of 3 diagnosis and then procede with appropriate surgery it was confirmed biliary atresia and immediately they lengthened the incision and proceeded with kasai procedure where they disconnect a loop of bowel and attach it to the liver to create a bile drain of sorts it has a 1/3 sucess rate and the procedure is most successful if done within the first 30days of life, he had the surgery on day 75
Little Owen had 3 surgeries at 2 just months old
the kasai was not a fix or a cure, there is no cure for the liver disease biliary atresia it was only done.to buy us time.
The kasai procedure has failed and we need to move on to the next step which is liver transplant.
I hope that I am a good candidate to donate a lobe of my own liver to Owen but if not we will have to be put on a donor list
We are asking for help to cover costs of travel food and medical expenses
It is alot of back and forth to the iwk halifax
And transplant will be in Toronto Ontario.
We are in hospital for extended period of time
We appreciate all love and support for us and Owen in these tragic times
Thank you all.
We are currently admitted at sick kids hospital in Toronto, Owen is in critical condition and needs 24h monitoring and care, we are not allowed to leave the hospital it will be a few months till transplant if we find a compatible live donor , otherwise and still we are currently listed for a deceased donor, after transplant We are still looking at living in hospital for a few weeks to a few more months depending on Owen's condition and recovery.
